Dream Battle: Premier vs. Pete Rock - May 2, 2010

Your folks at The Barbershop came across some news and a trailer for what looks to be a "dream battle."

As part of a celebration commemorating Manhattan Records being in business for 30 years, hip-hop innovators and icons, DJ Premier and Pete Rock will be participating in a DJ Battle.

See the trailer here:

Manhattan Records presents DJ Premier VS Pete Rock -A Legendary DJ Battle trailer from getfunky on Vimeo.

Each of these pioneers has become so incredibly known for their production that many have forgotten how each got there... through an art form that lately seems to be more and more overlooked in this digital age: Turntablism. The DJ... Disc Jockey... Sound Selecter... whatever. The DJ is the one who keep the party moving and hype!!!

Details of the battle will be provided as we learn more.

Leave It To The Roots... again

Check it out, folks. To all you Roots fans out there who also happen to be fans of the late and great J Dilla, here’s another little treat that your boys at The Barbershop found. Keep in mind, we’re not the folks giving this away, we just heard about it, then found it all over the internet. So, as fans, we’re passing it on.

Apparently, Questlove announced this "mixtape" almost two months ago via Twitter and it features The Roots Band recreating some of their favorite J Dilla tracks.

The original Tweet reads:

#dilla im tired as hell, but im always up
for treats. enjoy these joints the roots
did in honor of dilla @swiftfm

After looking around I found it available here.

Playlist: 04/01/10 - The United States

Note(s): Although many try to have you believe that there are rivalries between this and that coast or region, in the hip-hop industry, all the true heads know that's just the byproduct of mainstream media. In reality, mc's and producers have working together from the start. To take it even further, there are examples of mc's blowing up after setting up shop in a city that wasn't even their hometown.
