Playlist: 08/19/10 - Featuring Q-Tip

Date: 08/19/10
Note(s): Undoubtedly established as one of hip-hop’s innovators and greats both through his work as a member of A Tribe Called Quest and as a solo artist, this is a night that instead features work Q-Tip has done for releases outside of his own body of work. From hip-hop to r&b, jazz to latin music, Q-Tip has been placing his unique sense of rhythm and vibe on music listeners since 1987.

Again on a solo mission, ThaiMex decided to show the level of influence Q-Tip has on music in creating a vibe. Although there is a rich history that has been created by Q-Tip's creative endeavors, ThaiMex decided not to play a single song by A Tribe Called Quest or Q-Tip's solo body of work to prove his point. Instead, he played songs by everyone else that featured Q-Tip.

Note(s): The “King of Pop” passed away on June 25, 2009. We hope that at some point during the night, everyone found the time to make a couple spins, attempt a moonwalk, grab their crotch and scream out of respect for him.

Playlist: 06/10/10 - Family Trees, Vol. 3: The Soulquarians

Date: 06/10/10
Note(s): ThaiMex and Santanna Hill decided to take it light and chill this evening with a collective that mostly share sign of Aquarius as well as share a common interest for the unconventional, offbeat rhythms, irregular chords, and other traits often exhibited by underground urban music. An amazing powerhouse of artists, we are talking of none other than The Soulquarians. Although there seems to be no "official" or "definitive" word on this association, you can find a pretty good write-up about them HERE.
Based on the number of both core and peripheral members, ThaiMex and Santanna Hill came to the conclusion there could probably be a "Part 2" to this show. For now, enjoy the playlist they provided for the night:
